Rajya Sabha passed a bill on Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation Amendment Bill) on 2nd May. The bill was passed under Act, 1957 which is to regulate the mining sector in the country. Now it adds 4th schedule to the Mines and Minerals and includes bauxite, iron ore, limestone and manganese ore as notified minerals. Allowing the Union Government to increase the area limits for mining also it changes the lease period for all minerals other than coal, lignite and atomic minerals. 


FWA footballer of the Year 2016 is Leicester City's Jamie Vardy. He plays at the position of Striker Forward in Leicester City. He will be honoured with the prestigious FWA accolade. According to the WHO report Delhi is the most polluted city in the world. Delhi has a population of 25.8 million. According to the survey the number of vehicles increased from 4.7 million in 2010 to 24 million by 2030. Delhi govt has started Odd-Even formula to fight from the pollution and fuel use. Under this scheme four-wheelers with odd registration numbers can drive their vehicles only on odd day, and same with the even registration numbers. This scheme is not applied on sundays. To make this scheme to be followed strictly Govt has also roped over 5000 civil Defence Volunteers at various traffic points.


The Supreme Court of India decided to ban all diesel cabs to go off the road from 1st May 2016. Earlier the cabs owners were given 1 month to convert or change their fuel type to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Now it had made a effect on other automobiles sectors. SUV's with diesel and luxury cars more than 2000 CC engine capacity has now been stopped for sale.

Indian Railways signed a MoU (Memorandum Of Understandint) with forest departments to plant 5 Lakhs trees during this season. The agreement paves way for contribution on Green India Mission. Forest department involvement so as to maintain and planting trees resulting afforestation. Mission is to plant trees on the railway land and along with the railway track,

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr. Chandrababu Naidu launched Chandranna Bima Yojna on 1st May at Vijaywada. This yojna was launched for working class people on the occassion of May Day. This scheme will cover about 1.5 crore workers in the state. Under this scheme any worker who has insurance will be payed Rs. 5 Laks. If he suffers from permanent disability or accidental death during accident. Those who suffer from partial disability will be paid Rs. 3 Lakhs. Also Minister has asked officials to conduct a survey and enroll all the elegible workers under this scheme.

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi launched the Pradan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) on 1st May 2016 at Ballia. This scheme is based on a aim to provide cooking gas connections to the poor, especially the women will get benefit a lot by this scheme. Over 5 Crore beneficiaries who are below poverty line will get gas connections over next three years. According to WHO, 5 Lakhs die every year due to the heart disease, pulmonary diseases. etc.
